Automated external defibrillator is a medical device used to perform cardiac defibrillation. The purpose of defibrillation is to suppress the chaotic electrical impulses that flow through the heart and allow it to return to normal, regular function.

About 100 000 people suffer from a heart attack every year in Poland

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) outside the hospital it concerns about 40 000 people per year in Poland.

Of this number, only 5% were saved.

With each minute of defibrillation delay the chances of survival decrease by 7–10%

8 minutes is the average time it takes for an ambulance to arrive in the city

15 minutes outside the city

4 minutes is the statistical time from cardiac arrest to occurrence irreversible changes in the brain

What is SCA?

SCA, i.e. Sudden Cardiac Arrest This is a situation in which the heart stops beating properly. The person loses consciousness and stops breathing. The heart muscle begins to contract in an unsynchronized manner. This causes the heart to stop pumping blood. Sudden Cardiac Arrest can suddenly strike anyone: adults and children alike, regardless of health, age, or gender.

The cause of SCA may be:

Cardiovascular disease / Cardiac arrhythmia / Severe stress / Stroke / Allergic reaction to e.g. medications / Electric shock / Simple choking

Safe help

Automatic defibrillator provides assistance throughout the entire first aid process. An electrical shock is generated only in the event of cardiac arrest, such as ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia. The AED will not recommend defibrillation unless the patient requires it. Therefore, no one can be harmed.

Defibrillation can save your life or the life of your family. Basic knowledge of defibrillation will allow you to properly use a defibrillator at a critical moment, perform CPR, and perform chest compressions.
